25th December 2000 : BLUWS receives a huge Buddha statue from Thailand

Ven. S. Progha Lankar Sraman, President of BLUWS, has received a Buddha Statue from Thailand. The statue was donated by Most Venerable Ajahn Thoon Kippapanyo and his students. The statue arrived at BLUWS on 25th December and has been kept at the Headquarters.


BLUWS reconstructs the Dharmangkur Vihara

BLUWS has been reconstructing the Dharmangkur Vihara and the cost of the vihara has been donated by our Thai, Korean, Japanese, American and Canadian benefactors and the vihara is still under construction. BLUWS welcomes everyone’s contributions.


25th October 2002 : BLUWS offers yellow robes to the resident monks of the Vihara.

On the 25th October 2002 BLUWS organized its annual “Kathina Civara Dana” (Yellow robes offering) ceremony at the premises of the Dharmangkur Vihara. Many monks from different monasteries along with many lay Buddhists participated in the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Most venerable Sasanavangsa Mahathero, abbot, Sudharshan Vihara, Koat Bazar, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.


28th March 2003 : BLUWS honors newly elected Chairman and member of the Union Council ( Local Government).

On the 28th March 2003 BLUWS organized a welcoming ceremony in honor of the newly elected Chairman Mr. Dipak Barua (Dipu) and Member Mr. Lakkhi Kanta Barua of the Ghumddhum Union Council. Many dignitaries were present at the function including Mr. Saha Kamal Chowdhury, Chairman of Raja Palong Union Council, Mr. Sirazul Hoque, Mr. Badsha Mia, Mr. Noor Mohammad Sokdar and Mr. Sirazul Hoque (Siraz). All the dignitaries praised the activities of BLUWS and promised to extend their helping hands to promote its aims and objectives. They also talked about how to promote education, peace, unity and prosperity among all regardless of religion, sex, cast and creed. They wished a grand success of the BLUWS.

January 13, 2005 : Minister of Social Welfare visits Ukhiya


    H.E Ali Ahasan Mojahid, MP- Minister of Social Welfare of the Governments of the People’s Repbublic of Bangladesh along with other dignitaries including Hon. Shahajahan Chowdhury MP, visited Ukhiya on January 13, 2005 and met a large public gathering. They also met the representatives of the local NGOs.

    The minister and the MP delivered their speeches to the big gathering and praised the role of NGOs particularly the Buddha’s Light Universal Welfare Society (BLUWS) for its vital role in developing the remote areas in Ukhiya. They promised to cooperate at all levels to work for the social development, unity among all communities and peace for all.
